Of course cats are celebrated each and every day in our house, and in between taking care of and pampering me, Mum does a little every day to help homeless and orphan pets by tweeting and retweeting for them, as well as pinning to her special Pinterest board. She wishes she could do so much more, like running her own cat sanctuary where no cat will have to die, and one day she hopes she will be able to do just that.
As a rescue kitty myself, I feel the need to help other homeless and orphaned animals too so I tweet for them on my own twitter as well. It's heartbreaking, but the truth is there are just too many cats in need of forever homes and not enough homes available. Spaying and neutering helps to keep the birth rate low, but it's also important for humans to adopt and don't buy. It really is true that so many shelter cats will die if they are not re-homed. So, please, please, please try your local rescue shelter when you are considering getting a pet and don't be tempted to buy.
So many animals need forever homes now!

I am also plugging my book again because I want you to know that ALL royalties are now going towards three of our fave cat shelters. It's only 99c!
Read about my own rescue in this special book I co-wrote with my mum to help raise funds and awareness for rescue cats and pet adoption.

What a valuable National Cat Day message!
Happy National Cat Day! Thanks for sharing the important message about adopting shelter cats instead of buying. One kitty at a time, it helps save lives.
Happy National Cats Day to everyone! Cats have me heart especially feral cats and those in shelters. On our blog I have done a post about building Cozy Winter Homes for Feral cats. They need our help so very much!! Also, IF anyone is planning on a special gift this Holiday Season, I have posted a link to Stretch and Scratch boxes for shelter cats, it gives them exercise and something of their own until they get that forever home. They are also VERY affordable to purchase and give! Here is our blog address, for anyone who would like to build those homes or purchase and donate the Stretch and Scratch boxes. http://www.ifishoulddiebeforemypets.com
This is a lovely National Cat Day message, Athena! My dream is to run a cat sanctuary one day too.
Thank you for such a thoughtful and important message, Athena and Mum Marie. Thank you for all you do to help cats everywhere (and for including our pal Bella on your Pinterest board)!
We love your book, and we hope lots of people will purchase it. We'll tweet about it now.

Thank you for sharing our book! I love animals (especially cats) and can't sit by and let them suffer. Thank you to everyone who does the same. I hope that one day this world will be a better place for all beings :)
Thank you. Athena had a lovely long nap with her mummy today (she woke me up at 4am).

That's a perfect message for National Cat Day. Adopt shelter cats.....and spay/neuter, spay/neuter, spay/neuter!
Totally agree. Very well said.
I'm a proud Mummy of fourteen rescues (and five in heaven).
I'm hoping that one day the words 'animal shelter' will never need to be used.
