Had to go to the vet

Sorry we didn't publish our regular Melt Your Heart Monday post yesterday, but I wasn't feeling well and Mum had to take me to the vet.

I kept wanting to pee in the litter tray but only a tiny amount would come out. Mum got worried when I vomitted a bit and had a bit of runny poo as well. Well, she called the vet and then took me there that morning. That didn't help because I was stressed and Mum was stressed, so you can imagine the stress feeding off us both. I'm a cat, and so I'm sensitive, but then so is Mum. Far too sensitive so I suppose she was a cat in a past life or something.

Anyway, we got there, and I won't describe what he did, but he said it's probably stress-related and I had a urine tract infection or something like that. Mum was suspicious of the booster vaccine that he gave me last week and asked if it could be a reaction to that. Of course he said no, it wasn't. But Mum can't help wondering if it was indeed the vaccine because I had been fine up to that point.

He said perhaps the fireworks in the neighbourhood may have caused me to feel nervous and anxious. Mum said I hadn't shown any signs of being scared of them. Some cats might not show any outward signs, the vet said to her, but they can still be bothered by all the loud noise.

Mum thinks the stress of going to the vets and hearing those dogs barking really stressed me out last week, so maybe there is some truth that it could be stress-related.

We don't know, but today I am pleased to report that I urinated in my litter tray as normal and I still want to eat a lot, though Mum won't give me that much food any more as I need to lose some weight the vet said.

Has anything like this happened to any of you, furry friends?

We're glad you're feeling better. Stress can do a lot of harm.

We're so sorry you had to go to the Stabby Place. Get better soon! And yes, I (Toby) have had a number of medical issues, including UTIs. After I had several Mom paid for a special test to go to an outside lab, they said I had stress related cystitis. Both of us have been on Science Diet Prescription CD wet food, and that has fixed the UTI issues. But I am definitely sensitive to stress.

We are so sorry you had to go to the vet!! Urinary tract infections are no fun at all, and we hope you feel better soon.

Carmine has feline lower urinary tract disease with struvite crystals. Please tell your mom to watch and make sure you can urinate as not being able to urinate is very dangerous for your health. Carmine eats prescription food for his urinary tract condition and has not has any issues in years (yay!). Stress can definitely make urinary tract issues worse. I'm sure your mom is trying to keep the stress down around you. Purrs <3

I'm glad you're feeling better, Athena... my human always gets suspicious when a vet pooh-poohs something too.

No, dear Athena, I never was stressed except once in the year - means the last days of a year, when everyone is trying the firework they bought. That your mum is "too sensitive so I suppose she was a cat in a past life" made me smile - maybe that's true ... =^-^=
Hope you recover soon - many Purrs vom Lilly <3

Bless your heart. I can only imagine how frightening it must be to hear a bunch of rowdy dogs at the vet. Bentley and Pierre don't like it and they are dogs! I hope that you are back to 100% tomorrow. ♥

Oh I'm sorry to hear that, Athena!! In fact I had the very same thing last week! Mum had to take me to the vet anyway for a shot, but for a couple of weeks before, I had been very restless and yowling and urinating more than normal. I was also sick. The vet checked me over and said physically I was fine, but it sounded much like I was stressed because of a) bad weather b) constant fireworks c) hour change d) possible new cat in the neighbourhood! One or all of those can make a kitty seem sick. I hope you are better soon. For the last couple of days I have been much more normal xoxox

We're glad you're feeling better - we hate going to the vet, too. Toby doesn't mind fireworks but they totally freak out BobbieSue and Simon.

I am glad you are feeling better. Stress is a big cause of urinary infections. Whenever I would go away overnight, My Lucy would get them even though my Mom stayed with her.

Sure, blame it on the dogs! Sorry you are not feeling well. My cat had something similar but he needed surgery a couple years ago. Hope you are better soon.

Poor baby! It does sound like you are getting better I hope. Rhette went to the vet on Monday for his annual checkup. He's just now coming around after not eating or drinking since then, mom is starting to worry some too. They make Thundershirts for cats it might help you some from getting stressed. Love Dolly

Mister Cat is also a very stressed boy and going to the vet is the one thing he hates the most. But usually it doesn't affect is digestive health. I'm glad your feeling better and I'm sure soon you will be completely healed!

I'm so glad this seems to be clearing. My beloved kitty Eamon struggled with urine issues for years, and stress was a trigger for trouble. I used a raw diet later in his life, as it had a lot more water content and fewer fillers. That helped a lot. Might be worth a short.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling well, Athena. Stress does awful things to people and kitties. If you think it may be a problem from the vaccination (which does happen despite the medical community's denial), perhaps you should try taking some probiotics. Raw goat's milk works great. It can help your body to remove any toxins that could be lingering in your system.I hope to hear that you are back to being yourself very soon! *hugs*

Giulietta has stress related urinary problems. I wish I could give you some suggestions, but nothing I have tried is helping the situation. Hope you are back to your spunky self and feeling totally well very soon, Athena. Sorry about the diet.

Glad to hear your litter box issue probably isn't too serious. Stress can do strange things to kitties. Hopefully the barking dogs and fireworks was the cause and you'll be back to your usual self soon. Sorry you don't get all the food you want. I know how annoying that can be.

Trying hard to get her to eat wet food as I suspect the dry food she loves so much is to blame. She's just so stubborn and turns her nose up at wet. In the end I just give in and feed her dry again. But I will persevere!

Hope Giuletta is better soon xx

Hopefully transitioning her to wet food will help her lose some weight. She doesn't need to lose much.

How awful Athena. Healing purrs and we hope you are all better soon. Maybe your Mom can try a spirit essence to help you with stress. https://store.jacksongalaxy.com/store/jg/item/55481/jackson-galaxy-spirit-essences-stress-stopper?source=4-3320-2
