Worried Wednesday

If I look quite worried/thoughtful in this pic please read on to find out the reason why.

The other day I heard Mum and Granny talking. It wasn't good. They are planning a big move. Yes, my forever home is not going to be this one anymore.

Don't panic. I'm not about to be dumped. Mum and I are bonded for life.

No, they were actually talking about a change of residence for all of us. Apparently the area we are living in has changed dramatically over the years and Mum has been here all her life (apart from when she rented her own apartment up the road from here a few years before she adopted me).

The plan is to move to a cleaner, better, more peaceful area and they have put the house (it's Granny's house) on the market.

Not sure how I feel about it actually. The idea of the move is stressing me out. I'm not keen on strangers coming to view the house and I don't think my already anxious Mum is either. She is trying to stay calm for my sake I know and we help each other. But she says it'll be worth it in the end when we have a nice new home to live in. I just hope there aren't any nasty bully cats getting all territorial in my new garden.

We will be keeping you posted on the move of course!  Mum will no doubt be filming it all for my YouTube channel and there will be lots of tips on how to move with cats in the coming weeks/months so stay tuned :)

Sorry to be so wordy on a Wednesday but it's news I wanted to share. Perhaps my furry friends have some tips on moving house with your humans you'd like to share with us today?

Athena, I am sure your human is as stressed out as you are about this move! It's a big change for all of you. I know you will love your new place, where ever you all happen to land, but til then, I'll send some comforting purrs your way.

You are so lucky! Moving is a blast. My kitties and us doggies love moving. There will be tons of boxes to play in before, during and after the move, all kinds of things to discover in your new place. You will love it!

Oh, no. We are so sorry to hear you're moving. But maybe it will be a really great thing. You could even get a catio, maybe. We've moved several times. Never fun but we get through it.

Moving can be stressful, but as your mom said, Athena, it will be worth it in the end. I'm so excited for you!

I moved not quite a year ago, and prior to moving my furbabies to the new house, I sprayed some Feliway (a synthetic pheromone that can have calming effects) in the kitties' carriers and at the new house. I made sure the house was safe and that there would be very little to no heavy traffic in and out of the house on the day I moved them in, and for a few days after.

I won't lie, despite any preparations I made, I was not surprised that my cats hunkered down, did some blitzkrieg inspections, and then scurried into the nearest hidey holes after being released from their carriers at the new house. This is why, though, I had taken them to my bedroom when I brought them there, so that they could in the same room where I would be sleeping that night. That very first night my furbabies did come out and investigated a bit, albeit only staying close to me while doing so. My girl Thimble talked and talked all through that first night, and she's usually my mute one. It took a couple of days, but eventually my furbabies started roaming the entire house. Within a week or two, they loved the new house, and they still do. They have more room, and it's safe and quiet, and we all love it.

I really am very excited for you! As stressful as it can be, setting up a new home is such an accomplishment, and in the end you'll be so happy. Purrs!

Thank you so much for sharing about your move and the tips! Mum is planning lots I know and she says her main priority is me. I am her baby, after all! She has got the Feliway plug-in which she has not used yet.

It is stressful to move, but remember that your home is really your mum--wherever you are together is home. :-) Years ago when I got married, I had one cat and my husband had 2. Waddles and I moved into the house he already had, so Wa had to get used to a new place and new siblings. It was stressful but it all turned out well.

Moving is tough for everyone! There is always a period of adjustment. Do your best to prepare yourself before strangers come over. Getting your mind ready for it helps a lot. I hope that you will be able to get through all the hassle of it quickly.

What a great post! How wonderful you'll be sharing information on how to make moves easier for our feline friends. So important!

One thing I've done when moving with my cats is to keep them in just one room for the first few days in the new place. That way it's not as overwhelming.

Also, be sure all window screens are super secure. On one move, our two cats pushed out the window screen and escaped. Only one of our cats returned and we never found the other. It was terrible... :(

You've gotten so many good tips already, I'm not sure what to add! The only thing I'd (gently) suggest is to try meditation or yoga for you. When I am calm, my cats are calm, too. And some of my cats really love to meditate with me. They purr away while I try to find my serenity. It becomes something we do together, and I think we're all a little calmer for it. That might help you to get through the stress of the sale AND the move!

While it will be bittersweet because you grew up in the area, it WILL be for the BETTER!!
My Angel Bobo moved with me a number of times......one of those moves he had to ride over 2 hrs in the car to move to Michigan! Then we moved twice in Michigan......he did fine!!!
One tip I learned is to bring the kitty to the new place (while it is empty)....bring some of her toys and let her walk around and smell things and also, that will enable HER smell to be ON the floors, etc....before you move in! Then, it will feel more like home! catchatwithcarenandcody

Moving is a chore, but it can also be an adventure. You get to sort through all your stuff and rid yourself of all the toys you no longer use. Then you get to play in boxes. And then you get to explore a new place and find all the best resting spots and look-outs. Hopefully it will all go smoothly.

Moving is hard, and it IS stressful. We are purring and praying for you and Mum, Athena. We hope everything goes smoothly, and we know once you are done, you will look back with satisfaction and pride because the two of you did it together. :)

Change is stressful, but it sounds like it will be much better for you all. As long as you have your Mum, you will always be happy wherever you are.

Moving is stressful for both humans and kitties. We're purring that everything goes well. You'll be very happy with your mom in your new house when things come back to normal later. Purrs

Thank you. Yes, I plan to keep Athena in one room on the first day until all the removal men have left and I will make sure all doors and windows are secure.

So sorry about your other cat. That's awful :(

Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty said...

Thank you. I do Reiki for both myself and Athena and I try to keep calm for her sake :)

Thanks Caren. I'll be glad to leave here to be honest, it is such a dump these days. I will make sure Athena has all her things and will also leave some of my own clothes in the room for her to smell her Mummy and comfort her. I'll also try to act as normal as poss :)

Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty said...

Oh yeah. lots of new boxes! Athena will love those :)

Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty said...

Thank you so much. We hope it all runs smoothly and we'll soon have a lovely new home. We expect it'll take a while to find the ideal place though :)

Purring and praying it goes well for you all. Feliway wipes and plug ins will help with the stress if you want to try them.
