Adopt a Cat
Adopt don't shop!

We are featuring a couple of rescue cats from Wood Green, the Animals Charity in the UK and also a sweet little kitten from a rescue charity based in Cyprus today.

TREACLE (Photo: Wood Green)

Treacle is 9 years young and is at the London Centre of Wood Green, the Animals Charity (where I was rescued!). Treacle is a friendly lady who would make a nice calm companion. She is a bit shy at first, but once she gets to know you, she is very affectionate and will sit on your lap. This sweet girl loves to be pampered and enjoys a good grooming session A home with no other animals would be best for her.  If you would like to know more about her visit her profile here!

Watch Treacle in action!

😺

The next kitty we are featuring is a Cypriot kitty from Friends of Larnaca Cats.

GINGER (Photo: Friends of Larnaca Cats)

Ginger was born in March of this year so is still a kitten. He is vaccinated and neutered. Poor little Ginger was dumped along with other kittens on Easter Sunday at a feral colony. Way too young to be without a mother :(  Luckily, the kittens were soon moved into foster care. This gentle boy loves cuddles as well as playing with his friends! He can be adopted from the UK. Find out more about him here.

Sunday Cold Morning Selfie

Happy Sunday!

I'm not so happy because it's cold. So cold that I didn't want to get up this morning and just wanted to snuggle up with Mum in bed.

But as you can see here, Mum made herself get up and the first thing she did was help me take this selfie.

Yeah, the goddess looks grumpy 😾

Caturday Art: Vintage Movie Star?

This post includes some affiliate links.

Caturday Art

The above photo was edited using the wonderful Fotor which we love and we do use it quite a lot in our editing. It is one of the best photo editors out there and easy to use too.

Ignore Mum's camera bag in the background, but this photo is cute and look at me turning back to look at Mum while we were in bed the other night. Both of us couldn't sleep and I could feel that Mum was restless and her mind was racing with thoughts again, so I turned back and gave her this cute look, staring deep into her eyes. Of course, I wanted her attention and she gave it, giving me a nice stroke while I purred with delight. And this made her happy and calm in return and we both fell asleep contented and wrapped in an aura of pure love πŸ’–

Before I go, have all you UK readers with cats entered this fab giveaway from HiLife Pet Foods yet?

Flashback Friday: Instagram Pics

Happy Friday!

Just a couple of pics on Instagram this week. Mum is very busy!

A post shared by Athena (@athenawisekitty) on

Review and Giveaway: HiLife It's Only Natural Luxury Cat Food

This is a sponsored post and all opinions are our own.

HiLife Cat Food Review and Giveaway!

We were contacted by HiLife to offer an honest review and asked if we would like to host a giveaway. Why not? We haven't had a giveaway in ages!

HiLife Cat Food Review and Giveaway

I am a fussy eater and tend to only like chicken flavour food and I have my favourite and I'll stick to that. I don't like other flavours, although I have been known to try a bit of salmon in the past. But it's not my fave.

Here I am getting a whiff of tasty chicken whilst posing in my photo shoot with the free stuff I was sent to try by as you can see here.

"Wanna taste some, Athena?" Mum asked.
"Of course, I do. What a silly question!"

HiLife Cat Food Review and Giveaway

Before I let you read our review, let me tell you a bit about the company that makes HiLife It's Only Natural, and other pet food in the HiLife brand.

About HiLife

HiLife cat food is not only tasty and delicious but has been created using the best quality ingredients to help give your darling cats the best!

HiLife is owned by Town & Country Petfoods, a family-run business based in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire in the UK. and established in 1974, by John Parkinson. The company originally supplied Hillards, Fine Fare and Gateway with own-label pet foods They then created the HiLife brand name for their largest customer, Boots the Chemist. However, in 1987 Boots decided to stop selling pet foods so John took the step of buying the HiLife brand name from Boots.

John and his son Tony set about building HiLife into a trusted national pet food brand and it was not long before his other son Peter and daughter Julie joined the business too, making Town & Country Petfoods a real pet-loving family business. Since then, retail sales value has grown to more than £30 million and the company now supplies assorted ranges to all major UK grocery stores, pet specialists trade, and other independent retailers. The range is also available online.

Sourcing Quality

The ingredients in this high-quality pet food are sourced from suppliers that must meet the family-run business' values of innovation and quality, putting them on the forefront of a number of key market developments over the years, including the first super premium cat food range and the launch of pouches.

Caring

HiLife has a policy of sustainability and accountability, and as members of the Earth Island Institute,  all tuna in their foods is dolphin-friendly.

HiLife It's Only Natural Review & Giveaway

For more than 10 years the company has supported Pets As Therapy, which is an amazing charity with over 5,000 volunteers whose registered PAT dogs provide animal-assisted therapy, bringing comfort, joy, and friendship to thousands of people every week. Pets As Therapy provides therapeutic visits to hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes, special needs schools and a variety of other establishments. Both young and old people are given the opportunity to stroke, hold and talk to one of these dogs and cats benefitting their health greatly. PAT also provide individual animal-assisted therapy (AAT), working with stroke patients and people with dog phobias.

HiLife It's Only Natural Review & Giveaway

Right, on with Athena's review!

Athena was sent to try HiLife It's Only Natural Luxury Chicken Platter in Jelly 5 x 50g Suggested Retail Price is £3.50 (per box)

The It’s Only Natural range is a complementary food for adult cats made from all natural ingredients with absolutely no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and is completely grain free. This is great and puts my mind at rest as I only like to give Athena the best!

After a bit of sniffing around Athena dived right in and licked the jelly a bit like she normally does. She seemed to enjoy it, though the texture is a lot different to her usual wet food so I think this was making her hesitant to start chewing. I also didn't notice an overpowering meaty smell like there normally is with other cat food brands. I don't know if this is a good thing or not from a cat's perspective.

HiLife It's Only Natural Review & Giveaway

Animals Do Feel Pain!

Wednesday Wisdom
Naptime: Escaping from the insanity for a while

Time to take a nap and forget about silly people.

Silly people?

Yes, I'm talking about those Tory MPs that have decided animals don't have emotions and cannot feel any pain.

Total ignoramuses!

What is it with this animal-hating government? More like they're the ones that don't have any emotions! 😼😠

I can't tell you how angry mum is right now. She is fired up and busy with her online campaigning and not paying much attention to me. But that's OK. I'm fine napping for a while. I am so proud of her and others like her who devote their time to helping animals.

Us evolved beings must all stick together and wipe out this backward outdated thinking. It really is unbelievable that here we are in the 21st Century and some people still seem to to be living in the dark ages.

Mum says the government has ruined this country enough, for people and animals, and though we never talk politics here, this is an issue Mum cannot ignore. Hell, she never even voted for Tory!

Now I'm getting worried about poor Larry who lives at Number 10. Hope he is OK and treated with the respect he deserves by all that lot!

So, come on, let's not let these useless unfeeling bunch of fools get away with it.

YOUR BELOVED ANIMALS DEPEND ON YOU!

So BE THEIR VOICE and sign and share the following petitions anywhere you can.

Charity Tuesday: Amber & Arnie

Adopt a Cat

We are featuring some rescue cats from Wood Green, the Animals Charity and also a sweet little kitten from a rescue charity based in Cyprus today.

First, this is Amber from the UK who is part of a beautiful pair called Amber and Jade. Amber is very chatty and loves all the fuss and attention. Jade takes a little bit longer to come out of her shell but does enjoy being fussed over a little bit at a time. These two ladies would love a quiet home together with each other’s company and a loving family. Do you have enough room in your home for these lovely girls? They don't need much, just a comfy sofa and a nice garden to investigate. If you think they are the girls for you, click on this link to take you to their Wood Green profile.

AMBER (Photo: Wood Green)

The next kitty we are featuring is a Cypriot kitty from Friends of Larnaca Cats.

This little guy is Arnie. He was born Apr/May 2017 in Cyprus and is already vaccinated and neutered. He is part of an original litter of five found at Tekke in mid-May. When found these little ones had terrible eye infections and sadly, the fifth kitten died soon after they were collected. Arnie has no vision (or extremely limited) vision in his left eye, but his right eye is fine. Arnie loves to hang out with his other kitten friends and is an affectionate little boy. He can be adopted and brought over to the UK. Click HERE for more details.

Mature Moggies Week 13-17 November #CharityTuesday

I was adopted when I was 10 weeks old. I was lucky. I found the best forever home any kitty could wish for. That was 6 years ago. I am so happy and I love my home and mum (and granny too).πŸ’š

Athena as a kitten
Me as a happy contented kitty on my Mum's lap when I got adopted

But some cats and kittens aren't so lucky. Especially mature moggies. Some find themselves at the shelters through no fault of their own. Either they are strays, have been thrown out by selfish owners that no longer wanted them, have been left behind when their humans have moved out, or simply have gotten lost and have not been microchipped so their owners cannot be traced.  Then there are those poor cats whose humans have sadly become ill or died.

There are so many circumstances. But these dear kitties need love and affection and a warm home too. And you know what? They make marvellous companions too!

That's why this week (from 13-17 November), Cats Protection - the UK’s leading feline welfare charity that helps over 190,000 cats each year through its national network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 34 centres - is holding a ‘Mature Moggies Week’

From Cats Protection website:

"Figures from the charity, which show that older cats can take over twice as long to find a home as their younger counterparts, prompted the survey to understand why many ‘senior kitizens’ are being overlooked in favour of fresher-faced felines.

“Interestingly, there appears to be a misconception about what constitutes an ‘older’ cat, with 23% of respondents saying they would consider any cat aged over five years as ‘older’,” said Mark Beazley, Cats Protection’s Director of Operations.

“Actually a five-year-old cat is only 36 in human years and a cat generally isn’t classed as a senior until it reaches 11 years of age.”

A survey of 2,000 people who currently own or have previously owned cats, was commissioned by Cats Protection during September 2017 Some other key findings from the survey included:

Character and medical history were the most important considerations for people when choosing a new cat (with 87% and 83% classing them as important respectively), followed by age (68%).
Just 24% of respondents said they would be likely to consider an older cat, compared to 68% of respondents who would be likely to consider getting a kitten.
Less than 4% of people knew that the equivalent human age for a one-year-old cat is 15 years old. The majority (69%) thought that it was five years old.
Only 16% of people knew that the equivalent human age for a five-year-old cat is 36 years old. The most popular answer (38%) was 25 years old.
The top reasons given for not considering an older cat were that it might not live long (72%), it would more likely to get ill (56%) and if it is unwell it will cost money (40%).
Almost a fifth (19 %) of people who were unlikely to consider an older cat said that one of the reasons was that older cats are not very playful.
Owners of older cats cited the top three: they are calmer (58%), they don’t want to leave the house as much (54%) and it feels like they are more of a family member (52%).
Cats Protection says improvements in cat care have greatly raised the life expectancy and quality of life for household moggies, with many now living into their late teens and early 20s in remarkably good health.

However, figures from the charity’s centres show that cats aged 11 and over spend an average of 33 days waiting to be adopted – twice as long as the overall average time of 15 days and over four times longer than kittens, who wait an average of just eight days.

“It’s a shame that older cats stay with us longer as they have a lot to offer,” added Mark. “They tend to stay closer to home, so they are less likely to be involved in road traffic accidents and more likely to enjoy curling up on a warm lap, making them great companions.

“Their characters are fully formed so you know what sort of cat you’re getting and they’re less likely to scale the curtains or knock your ornaments off the shelf! That said, older cats can often still be quite playful when they choose to be and many enjoy a few short games each day.

“Life in a pen is no substitute for a permanent home so we would urge people to consider adopting an older cat.

“All cats adopted from Cats Protection have been fully health-checked and come with a full medical history and four weeks’ free pet insurance which will cover any new conditions that arise after adoption.”

During Mature Moggies Week, Cats Protection will be asking people to share stories about their own cats as well as providing educational messages and advice to those who either own or are thinking about adopting an older cat.

To get involved visit Cats Protection’s social media channels from 13-17 November at www.facebook.com/catsprotection or www.twitter.com/catsprotection

Older kitties awaiting forever homes at Wood Green, the Animals Charity

LEAH (Photo: Wood Green)
Leah is a beautiful, sweet, affectionate girl that enjoys a fuss and a chin tickle. She can be a little nervous about people she doesn't know at first, but soon relaxes and starts to purr loudly.  She is looking for a quiet home where she can be the centre of attention and have all the love she deserves! If you would like to find out more information about Leah, then please contact the Heydon centre.

CINDERS: (Photo: Wood Green)
Cinders is a very affectionate lady and will often express this by padding with her paws and by having a little dribble! She would love nothing more than to have a loving home, and she is very eager to meet you. If you would love to give her a home contact the Heydon centre.
