Caturday Art: Boiler Breakdown

Happy Caturday!

Yet more stress for Mum and Granny this week as the boiler broke down and we had no hot water for almost a week. Good job it isn't the middle of winter because we would have had no heating either!

I offered to give Mum and Granny a wash the way we cats do it but they declined the offer. I do sometimes wash Mum's hair when it smells nice and fresh which obviously wasn't the case these last few days until she boiled some water in the kettle and used a bucket to wash it.

Humans love their water but in the past, they must have found a way to manage somehow. Imagine what it must have been like then? Mum says there must have been a lot of smelly people about.

Anyway, Mum took this pic when I had to stay in our bedroom while the gas engineer was here to fit a new boiler. Yeah, the original one in the house we just bought had an old one, probably as old as the property, which is about 22 years old.

Why did it have to break down when we just moved in and not before when we didn't own it? It cost a lot of money to get a new one. Not fair on Granny and Mum. Anyway, I wasn't too pleased as you can see.

The pic was made artsy by the use of the PicsArt app. Can't remember which filter.

  1. Oh, that's very frustrating about your boiler. We had to replace our water heater shortly after purchasing our house. The water heater itself was ok, but there was a gas leak in the supply pipe and we had to remove the water heater to fix the pipe. At that point we decided to just replace the heater. Of course that meant we had to install the new one to current building & safety codes, which added to the cost.
I like the filter you used on Athena's picture.

    1. Thanks. Gas leaks definitely need to be fixed! Scary. Everything is so expensive these days though but ours had to be replaced as it was too old and this one is lovely and quiet. Old ones are far too noisy.

  2. Our hot water went out on a Friday night and the humans couldn't get it fixed until Monday - they were not happy.

  4. We are so sorry your boiler went out. We had to take our hot water heater out to put in the tile and it was no fun not having hot water.

Mommy says when they moved in our house it was freezing cold and they discovered the previous owners lied about the gas fireplace working (they said it worked fine was just out of gas) and that the heating elements on the Air Pump didn't work. She liked to froze to death that first winter.

    1. There is always something with houses. But that's life I guess.

  5. Years ago when my parents and I moved into a house that was about 20 years old, the custom-built refrigerator died within a couple of weeks. So Mom and Dad had to get a new one, which was not custom built but at least it kept food cold! You look very pretty in your art, Athena, even if you don't look pleased! :)

    1. Thank you. I was scared of all the noise the engineer was making and I don't like strangers in the house.

  6. That's terrible that the boiler broke so soon after moving in!! Such bad luck! Glad it's fixed though.

    1. Very annoying. But I'm thankful that it's not the middle of winter because then we would have had not heating either.

  8. That is awful. I think the old owners should have to reimburse at least part of it. Very pretty art. XO

  10. Whoa! Did you have the place inspected before you moved in? That's something they should have been aware of. Before we moved in, the owners had to fix a bunch of stuff that the inspector found. We had to get a new HVAC system but we had been living here about 2 years when it happened. Kewl art!

  11. You look lovely Athena. I'm sorry about the boiler though! My human says that's how stuff always works. It breaks AFTER it's finally in your name!

  16. Sweetheart I am so glad you all have a new boiler. Can you speak with the home broker who took care of the legalities of buying the home and try to get restitution for that bad boiler? SOME of your money back?

    1. It doesn't work like that here. Boilers can last for years so I guess it's just unfortunate that it broke a few weeks after we moved in. It was working fine for a while.

  17. Oh my! That is not good...no matter what time of year. No water is always bad news. I sure hope you got it all fixed now! LOVE the pic of you Athena! Hope all is well. We haven't been blogging lately but hopefully we are back now. :)

    1. I know. Managed to have a quick wash by boiling water in the kettle, but of course it wasn't enough for a bath :)
