Caturday Art: Self-Assembly Nightmare

Mum bought a new bed and she had to self-assemble it. She's assembled a lot of furniture before but this was a complete nightmare, just like the dining chairs she assembled a month ago.

Poor Mum doesn't need the added stress.

It took her all day (though it stated it would take just 30 minutes in the manual). My arse (ass) it takes that long! Idiots write those manual, you know!

Most stores do not deliver fully-assembled furniture anymore. Then why don't you make them cheaper at least because I'm sure it takes at least a few days off work for anyone to be able to assemble your rather expensive products that must always have parts that do not fit properly.

I waited patiently and gave Mum some love stares to help relax her. She was almost at breaking point. Pulling her hair out. Crying.

Finally, when it was done I jumped on first and couldn't wait to test the new bed out!

The mattress is medium firm and just lovely! Mum likes it too but says the amount of effort and stress it caused to put it together has made here unable to enjoy it.

My art for today. Can you see me on the bed?

  1. Marie! Athena! We feel for you! And putting bess together
When Nellie and Mom moved into the townhouse, it took Mom 2 days and about a hundred hours to put her bed together! We feel your pain! And we can tell you that the experience mellows with age and that (eventually) you will LOVE the bed and laugh about the trying experience!Your bed is lovely and Athena, it souts you purrfectly!
    Enjoy!

  2. That's a bummer that your human was too stressed out to enjoy the bed she had put together. It looks nice - maybe she will be able to enjoy it when she is less stressed.

    1. And the money these things cost too. Doesn't seem right we should struggle to put them together. There are some stores that sell assembled but they are rare and much more expensive :)

  11. If you weren't across the pond, I could've send Pop over to help you. People here hire someone to put their furniture together. Another reason why it should be cheaper although Ikea furniture is cheaper. When TW bought Pop's desk, she paid more to go to a place where they send the finished desk. It's a nice deck. It took TW a week to assemble a brass coat tree. Heh.

  12. Athena, we believe that you were there for your mom every step of the way. It must of been really hard for her, but you laying on the bed will make her feel ok in the long run. We love the tungston effect photo the most. The black and white feel and the lighting is just perfect. Hope you both relax this weekend and thank you for the share.

  17. I'm sorry your Mom had so much trouble - but once you have put something together, it makes it easy the next time - I speak from experience and lots & lots of shelving ! (But some stores will assemble stuff for an extra fee.)
I enjoyed your video too, Athena ! Hopefully now you and Mom can climb into the new bed and relax !

  20. Well...we have to admit that your mom is very persistence, Athena, and she did a great job to fix it anyway...allthough we can know how frustrating it is to fix it all by yourself. Granny was a single mother for a very long time and did a lot of beds with and without instructions, you should had called her, she's an expert...MOL :D It was very hard work and so annoying to have to do it all by yourself..pfff...Anyway, you look absolutely beyond gorgeous in your artwork and it's a beautiful bed too :) Pawkisses for a Happy Day and a good rest for later :) <3

  22. Even if it caused your Mom a ton of stress to put it together (I am like her, it takes me all day to put together something that says will be fast), she did an amazing job and I LOVE that bed! Hopefully one day she will grow to love it too!
