Music Monday Throwback Christmas Special

Some of the best memories for Mum music-wise are from the year 1984. Well, she was 18, ambitious and full of hope for the future, and totally music-mad. It was before she got into rock and metal so she was into the top pop acts of the day.

Music was great in those days. I particularly enjoy listening to George Michael and Wham with Mum when gets nostalgic. Mum also loved Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran and Paul Young at the time too.

So today we're sharing some of Mum's music memories from Christmas 1984.

In December of that year, Mum went to 3 live concerts. Spandau Ballet (twice!) earlier in the month and Wham! on Boxing Day. She couldn't get tickets for their Christmas Eve gig, unfortunately. In the previous year, she'd seen Duran Duran at the same venue - Wembley Arena. That was her first ever concert! She tells me the screaming girls ruined it for her because for Mum it's always been about the music. She was never a crazy fangirl, screaming at her idols. No. She wanted to join them on stage, be part of the gang because she dreamed of being a singer.

So here are some songs from December 1984. We hope you enjoy the memories (if you're old enough!)

  Last Christmas by Wham!

Do They Know It's Christmas? by Band Aid

Round and Round by Spandau Ballet

Everything She Wants by Wham! (Mum's fave Wham song)

Love of the Common People by Paul Young (Top of the Pops Christmas Special 1984)

The Reflex by Duran Duran (Top of the Pops Christmas Special1984)

Beautiful and classic songs. Band Aid is still my favorite and something I loved for years. I remember 1984 so well.

Good choices... "Love Of The Common People" is an old Everly Brothers and Waylon Jennings song from the '60's...

Our favorite X-mas song is "Santa Lost A Ho" by the Christmas Jug Band. Very silly, but catchy and we all need a laugh!

My human really loves 80s music too... although she was more of an alternative rock and college music fan. ALL the music genres were pretty good back then!

Athena,

I'm delighted to have you join the 4M dance floor and I'm so digging your throwback song picks for our all-out Christmas extravaganza. I have to admit you introduced me to some new tracks. I don't know where my mind was when these came out but then I have trouble remembering a lot of the mewsic from the early-mid 80s for some reason. I think it's largely because I was in college and then began my career life with mewsic not always at the top of my list. I know gasp, right? Oh well...I'm trying to remedy that problem these days by getting my mewsic education at every stop I make in Blogosphere. Have a joyful and blessed Christmas season. BTW, did you join our linky party? I see you added it to your post. Please, feel free to add your link if you haven't yet!! I hope you'll dance again with us next week!

1984 was a Great year for music! My favorite Wham! song was 'Credit Card Baby'. Now I'm wanting to hear more Wham! I may have to find a setlist on youtube and have a listen.
